Design for Simulation 27 Sept 2016

Today we learnt about the topic Art as an Imitation and Truth: Mimesis and Indexicality.

Mimesis is a term derived from Greek which can mean ‘to imitate’ as in the word mimic which can also be implied in other words as to duplicate.

The shortened form of Indexicality is Indexical, which Merrian-Webster defines as ‘associated with or identifying an individual speaker.’

There was a term that I had never heard of, it is called a Katharsis. Freedictionary describes the term as ‘an act of removing by cleansing; ridding of sediment or other undesired elements’. The effect this has is a piece of media with tragic elements makes the audience feel better.
